About
Bask & Burrow is run by a keeper, not a marketing team — someone who's kept the same animals we write about for sixteen years. We research the husbandry properly, recommend only the gear we'd actually use, and have zero patience for the outdated advice that still runs this hobby.
Who's Behind This
This site is run by a single long-time reptile keeper. Not a content agency, not a dropshipping brand that discovered reptiles last quarter — someone who has kept ball pythons for sixteen years and still does.
That matters, because most reptile content online is written by people who have never actually kept the animal they're advising you about. Everything published here is written or reviewed by someone who has — who has made the beginner mistakes, upgraded the enclosures, chased down the humidity problems, and learned what actually works versus what a care sheet from 2009 insists on.
Sixteen years with the same species you're researching changes what advice you trust — and what you refuse to repeat.— Adam, founder
Why This Site Exists
Reptile keeping has grown faster than the information around it. U.S. reptile ownership is up 38% since 2016, and the animals being kept now deserve setups built around modern husbandry — not the glass tank and heat rock a pet store sold their keeper in 2005.
Most of what's out there falls into one of two camps, and both fail you:
Manufacturer product pages with slick photos and no real care information — built to sell a box, not keep an animal alive in it.
Care blogs full of confident advice with no sources, no testing, and no product accountability when the recommendation is wrong.
Bask & Burrow is built to be neither — a site that researches the husbandry against real sources, then tells you exactly what to buy to execute it, and stands behind both.
How We Actually Evaluate Things
This is the part most sites won't show you, so here it is plainly. Every guide and recommendation runs through the same process:
- Husbandry is researched against credible sources — exotic vets, herpetological research, and reputable care references — not repeated from folklore.
- Where credible sources genuinely disagree, we show both positions and the weight of evidence rather than picking one silently.
- Products are judged on material, heat and humidity retention, warranty, real assembly experience, and price tier — never on which affiliate program pays best.
- First-hand wherever possible: we keep these animals and use this gear.
- We cite our sources, and we correct mistakes when we get something wrong.
If we wouldn't put it on our own animal's enclosure, it doesn't get recommended — commission or not.
What We Cover
The site is organized around the setups keepers actually search for. Start wherever your animal fits:
- Enclosure buying & PVC — the foundation every setup is built on
- Ball python habitat — our home turf
- Bearded dragon habitat
- Heating & lighting
- Bioactive & secondary species
It's written for new-to-intermediate keepers and for anyone upgrading a starter setup into something their animal can actually thrive in.
How We Make Money
Bask & Burrow earns primarily through affiliate commissions, and for a growing set of products, as a direct retailer. That never changes what we recommend — see our full disclosure policy for exactly how it works.
