Constant humidity is where most substrates fail — they hold the water, go stagnant, and sour the whole enclosure. Terra Flora is The Bio Dude's handcrafted bioactive substrate for exactly those biomes: very humid, heavily planted vivaria for rainforest amphibians and reptiles like dart frogs, tree frogs, and salamanders. It holds the right amount of water and passes any excess straight through into a HydroGrow drainage layer below. This item ships direct from The Bio Dude with Bask & Burrow as your seller of record — see our shipping policy and refund policy for how delivery and returns work.
- Formulated for high-humidity species: dart frogs, tree frogs, salamanders, and other rainforest dwellers, in biomes that get very humid and would otherwise go stagnant.
- Water passes through, not around: excess moisture drains directly into the layer below — The Bio Dude highly recommends running Terra Flora over a HydroGrow drainage layer.
- Feeds a planted build: organic nutrition and air pockets for root development, so the dense planting these species need can actually establish.
- Built for a clean-up crew: the same air-pocketed structure sustains the springtail and isopod population that keeps a wet vivarium clean.
- Sizing: one 18 qt bag suits standard frog vivaria; larger or deeper planted builds simply take additional bags.
Wet builds are a system, not a bag of dirt — our guide to drainage layers and false bottoms explains how the substrate and drainage layers work together, and our crested gecko bioactive and planted setup guide covers Terra Flora as a purpose-built tropical mix for planted terraria.
